Yes, in both scenarios of installing between joist below the timber substrate or above the existing subfloor skirting boards will need to be removed. This is due to either the removal of the existing timber substrate to fit the system within the joist or build up above using a retro fit system. Once the final floor finish is applied, the skirting boards can be fitted to finish the room.
It would be advised to have a split system to provide the most efficient performance from the system. This will also allow better control of the heat produced into the areas and lengthen the lifespan of the pump for you underfloor heating systems.
Carpets can be used above Fastwarm Underfloor Heating system permitting the system is installed to receive the application of these type of floor finishes. Please note that the underlay and carpet cannot exceed 2.5tog maximum. These types of systems will also have an impact on the performance of the system and may sometimes require a supplemental heat such as a rad to warm the area.
Depending on the type of system you are installing. Our retro fit solutions are the perfect scenario to apply over the existing floor if in a good condition, however these will impact floor build ups. The scenarios where floor build up are not achievable, we can offer in joist solution which will reduce the floor build up in these cases the existing floor will need to be removed.
