What is Underfloor Heating?

Our simple guide to Underfloor Heating and the right system for you.

Underfloor heating is the modern low energy cost saving solution to heat your home.

Underfloor heating is becoming more and more popular due to the benefits over conventional central heating radiator systems.

The Increased popularity of underfloor heating is due its various applications in many different building scenarios,With multiple options including electrical and water underfloor heating systems, Fastwarm® have a huge range of different options available including inscreed, overlay and special retro fit systems.

There are many benefits when using underfloor heating. It's proven to be the more economical way to heat your home, up to 25% more efficient than radiators and 40% when paired with a renewable heat source such as an air source heat pump

Please find below a comprehensive guide to find out which system is suitable for your project.

Electric Underfloor Heating

Electric Underfloor Heating uses electrical heating elements to heat your room in a more ecomonical way than radiators, reducing heating bills and having less impact on the environment. Electric Underfloor Heating warms your floor to heat the room, allowing the rooms layout to not be determined by radiators.

The system is composed of an electrical cable laid under your floor covering with electrical resistance in the cable generating heat when a current is passed through it. This heat is absorbed into the floor substrate and radiated into the room above.

Water Underfloor Heating

Water Underfloor Heating systems use warm water to heat your home in a far more efficient manner than traditional radiators, reducing heating bills and having less impact on the environment. Water Underfloor Heating works by turning the floor area into a giant, efficient and invisible heat emitter.

Water underfloor heating pipes are connected to a pump and manifold, which is then connected to a heat source - such as a boiler or heat pump. Due to the large areas being covered with pipe work these systems can run at a lower temperature than radiators making them more economical and an ideal solution for heat pumps.
