When a family has been told that there’s no cure for their child’s illness and all that can be done is to make life comfortable, Little Havens Hospice can help.
Based in wonderful Thundersley meadowland, Little Havens Children's Hospice opened in 1998 as a result of the founders of Fair Havens Hospice identifying a real need for children's hospice care in Essex.
Little Havens provide respite breaks, symptom control and end-of-life care to youngsters not expected to reach adulthood because of a life-limiting or lifethreatening condition. Little Havens are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to emergency referrals.
Support and advice is offered throughout the journey of the child's condition and after they have passed away through the Bereavement and Family Support Team. Although the charity was founded on a Christian ethos, care and support is given to families of all faiths or none.
About Havens Hospice
Little Havens Hospice focus on the individual needs of the children that they care for, ‘Making every day count’ for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Their care is often described by children and their families as "amazing", an odd word to describe hospice care, maybe.
Whether they care for a child for years, months, weeks or even just hours, they make a real difference to their life.
They’re the only place in Essex dedicated to looking after those youngsters with an illness which could shorten their life.
