Electric Underfloor Heating for Large Areas
Fastwarm® electric underfloor heating systems are limited to the maximum switch load of the thermostat. Thermostats for electric underfloor heating including our Fastwarm® range are limited to a maximum of 16amps or 3600watts.
This portrays into the below area coverages using a 3 different type of systems:
Fastwarm® Sticky mats are pre spaced out cables on a sticky mesh matting. These systems are supplied in 3 different outputs per m2.
Fastwarm® loose cables are supplied in a standard 10w per linear meter output and the wattage per meter squared are determined by the spacings create when laying the system. Totalling 360m of cable maximum per 1 thermostat.
Fastwarm® Foil mats are a multi used system supplied with both the underwood systems and the Fastwarm® Under Carpet / vinyl system when cover with heat pak dual overlay. This system runs at 140w per meter squared.
Is your floor area larger than the maximum kit size? We have 2 options:
- OPTION 1
- Install a contactor which will aid in switching the greater load, these are available in 25A and 40A. You need to ensure that your electrician is able to run suitable direct supply to power the system. A contactor is a switch capable of switching high loads. your thermostat would switch this on rather than the heating. All the heating power supplies run back to the contactor position.
- OPTION 2
- Split the area into multiple zones / smaller areas incorporating 2 or more thermostats.
Water Underfloor Heating for Large Areas
Fastwarm water underfloor heating systems are limited to a maximum single length of pipe on a single circuit pump. If the system requires over this set length of run of pipe, then a manifold will be introduced.
The maximum single pipe length is 120m. Beyond this length required a manifold.
The maximum single pipe length is 80m. Beyond this length requires a manifold.
Can I control my manifold with 1 thermostat?
Although you will have multiple runs of pipe into 1 room this wouldn’t require multiple thermostats. The manifold would be set up to allow a flow of water into the specific pipes for this area, if composed of more than one room / zone then a second and possibly third thermostat will be added resulting in you single zone system being turned into a multi zone system.
This type of installation will include actuators and a underfloor heating wiring centre.
